Mai Ahmed Fatty, leader of the opposition Gambia Moral  Congress, has said that the Gambia has no national crisis but economic problems.

“When I appeared one of things I said was that there is no national crisis. We have economic challenges but we are not in a crisis where there is a queue for petrol, queue for rice and sugar. We have basic commodities.

“The difficulties we have [basic commodities] are not easily affordable, that’s a problem. But we don’t have any national crisis. There is no civil war in any part of the country. There is no communal problem which threatens national security,” he said.

“People find it difficult to put food on the table every day. We’ve been talking about inflation and the economy. And not only that, we’ve made several efforts to speak to them [government] where they ought to be spoken to. We speak to decision makers and policy makers and [try to] influence them in [whatever way] we can,” he added.
