Mbara Gajaga, a resident of Medina Kanuma in Lower Nuimi, has been detained at Barra police station for alleged robbery in Essau.

The suspected was alleged to have entered the house of Yankuba Manneh,

Gambia Ports Authority’s communications officer.

Mr Manneh explained what happened to our reporter.

“This suspected thief entered my house in Essau at around 1:00am, unplugged my phone from the charger and attempted to make away with it, then I noticed his presence. He ran away in the dark and I chased him.

“After a strenuous hot pursuit involving jumping over erected fences, I caught him and he began to exchange fists with me until he surrendered the phone to me, even before people in the neighbourhood came to the scene.

“I sustained bodily injuries and some bruises. In an attempt to drag him to the compound and tie him down to wake up others to the news, he wrangled and escaped.

I thought that was it all. But no! On the whole I was his latest victim just last night alone.”

Mr Manneh continued: “So far, our statements have already been taken and we are poised to ensure his ultimate prosecution.

“We hope by doing so, our people, our wives, mothers, children and property will be safe and secure and peace will reign too.”

“Nuisances like him in the communities will take caution. Currently the suspect is behind the bars at Barra Police Station,” he added.
