Authorities have reported the discovery of 44 dead hooded vultures in an orchard in Brufut, in a case that has raised alarm among wildlife officials and conservationists.

The Department of Parks and Wildlife Management, working alongside the West African Bird Study Association (WABSa), launched an investigation after being alerted to the incident.

Upon arrival, the team found that all the vultures had been killed and had their heads removed.

Preliminary inquiries suggest the killings may be linked to local beliefs surrounding the vultures, potentially contributing to the tragic mass death.

This incident marks the third occurrence of such killings, following previous cases in Gunjur and Bonton.

Experts are calling for urgent investigations and increased community engagement to prevent further losses of the vulnerable species.
