Mauritania have pulled off a fairytale victory as they beat Algeria 1-0 to qualify for the round of 16.

This is the first time the Almoravids have gone through to African Cup of Nations knockout stages.

Mohamed Dellah Yaly scored the only goal in the game after he took advantage of a mistake by Algeria in the 37 minutes.

Algeria continued to press for equaliser but they were denied by the Mauritanian defence who dug in to make history in Bouake.

Elsewhere, Angola thrashed Burkina Faso 2-0 to top Group D.
