
The Mayor of Kanifing, Talib Ahmed Bensouda,has attended the opening of the first-ever FENAC cultural festival in Koundara, northern Guinea, highlighting the close cultural ties between the two neighbouring countries.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Bensouda thanked his host, Abdourahmane Bah, Mayor of the Municipality of Koundara, for the invitation, describing it as a “gracious welcome” to the landmark festival.
He praised the support of local authorities, particularly Prefect Abdourahmane Keita, and emphasised the shared heritage between Guinea and The Gambia.

“I look forward to celebrating the rich Guinean culture tonight, which in many ways is also Gambian culture,” he said.
During the visit, Mayor Bensouda, alongside senior Guinean security officials, joined Prefect Keita to receive three members of the Guinean cabinet.
They were Moussa Moïse Sylla, Minister of Arts and Culture; Faya François Bourouno, Minister of Labour; and Mahmadou Diallo, Minister of Tourism.
The festival, which showcases Guinean music, dance, and cultural heritage, is being held for the first time in Koundara.
Mayor Bensouda’s presence underlined the growing collaboration between the two countries and reinforced the importance of regional cultural diplomacy.
Officials said the FENAC festival aims not only to celebrate Guinean traditions but also to foster stronger cross-border connections, with participation from neighbouring countries including The Gambia.
