Youth and Sports Minister, Bakary Y. Badjie, has launched an attack on the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), accusing Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda’s administration of failing residents and delivering “next to nothing” after years in office.
Addressing crowds in Bakau, the Minister didn’t mince his words as he questioned whether the council had achieved anything meaningful for the people of KM.
“What has this council done for you?” he asked, firing up the audience.

“Past leaders like Lie Conteh and Yankuba Colley built markets for the people. But today’s KMC can’t point to even one market. Not a single road. Not a single school.”
Badjie branded the Bensouda-led council “incompetent” and accused it of hiding behind excuses while showing off what he described as “invisible developments” no one can see on the ground.
He tore into the council’s much-hyped D300 million road project, saying it “never happened,” and mocked the still-unfulfilled plan to turn Serrekunda West Park into a FIFA-standard mini-stadium, calling it just another promise that “never saw daylight.”

He also blasted KMC for allegedly ignoring key requirements from the National Roads Authority, including compensation and relocation payments needed before construction can start.
“Instead of doing the work, they run to the media and blame central government,” he claimed.
Badjie urged residents to hold their council to the same standard of accountability they expect from the central government, insisting both have a duty to deliver essential services.
On the long-delayed Independence Stadium renovation, Badjie admitted decades of deterioration but insisted work is on track and should be ready by March next year.
He said funding is in place to meet all CAF requirements, including a brand new athletics track.
KMC has not yet responded to the Minister’s scathing comments.
