Musa Barrow was named Man of the Match as Gambia beat Mauritania 1-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations debut.

Barrow won the TotalEnergies Man of the Match award after a brilliant display in Gambia’s Group F opener in Limbe, Cameroon.

The Bologna forward is one of the players to watch in the tournament.

Gambia looked like the stronger team for the vast majority of the game and Coach Tom Saintfiet will be pleased by the defensive resilience of his side.

The Scorpions had a number of chances to double their lead as Mauritania struggled to make an impact despite their ball possession.

Ablie Jallow gave Gambia the lead in the tenth minute, as he took one touch before firing a brilliant effort right into the corner of the net from just outside of the box.
