The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has announced the introduction of temporary minimal load shedding in response to an exceptional surge in electricity demand during the Ramadan and Lenten seasons.

In a public notice issued on February 23, 2026, the nation’s utility provider said the move is aimed at safeguarding the stability of the national grid at a time when power consumption has significantly increased across households, businesses, and worship centres.

“NAWEC wishes to inform the public that, due to the exceptionally high demand for electricity during this year’s Ramadan and Lenten seasons, there will be a period of minimal load shedding to maintain the stability of the national power system,” the statement read.

The company acknowledged the spiritual and social importance of the period, noting that families and communities rely heavily on electricity for evening prayers, food preparation, and religious gatherings.

To minimize disruption and allow customers to plan effectively, NAWEC announced that a daily load-shedding roster will be published starting tomorrow.

The schedule is expected to guide residents and businesses in adjusting their activities during the affected period.

While assuring the public that the measure is temporary, NAWEC extended an apology for any inconvenience caused.

“NAWEC sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience that may occur during these sacred observances and extends its appreciation for the public’s patience and understanding,” the notice stated.

The temporary intervention reflects ongoing efforts by the utility provider to balance rising seasonal demand with the need to maintain a stable and reliable national electricity supply.
