A court in Nigeria has ordered two popular TikTok content creators to marry within 60 days following the release of a viral video deemed “indecent” by authorities.
The directive, issued on Monday (20 October) by Magistrate Halima Wali, followed complaints from the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board over romantic videos shared by the duo, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda.
The court instructed the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage process between the two influencers, according to Punch newspaper.
Magistrate Wali warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would amount to contempt of court.
She also directed the chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to supervise the implementation of the marriage order.
The ruling came weeks after Mai Wushirya and Yar Guda were arraigned for producing and sharing obscene content online.
The videos, which showed affectionate scenes between the pair, were said to violate moral and religious standards in Kano State.
Officials of the Censorship Board said the videos breached state laws that prohibit sexually suggestive or explicit material.
“Such behaviour undermines the values we stand for and sets a dangerous example for the youth,” an official told Punch newspaper.
Mai Wushirya was earlier remanded in custody for allegedly promoting immoral behaviour through his skits, while Yar Guda was questioned by enforcement officers before the case was brought to court.
