The National People’s Party (NPP) has criticised United Democratic Party (UDP) lawyer Borry S. Touray over remarks it says encouraged violence and threatened national stability.
The party says Touray, UDP’s Administrative Secretary for Legal Affairs, made the comments during a house-to-house campaign in Jambur, urging supporters to obstruct President Adama Barrow from voting and running for office.
The NPP said Touray also insulted those who do not support the UDP, referring to them as “non-halal dingos” and reportedly telling supporters to “come out and die.”
Describing the remarks as “lawless and grossly irresponsible,” the NPP called on the UDP to publicly denounce Touray’s statements.
It also demanded an unreserved apology and full retraction from the lawyer, warning that his comments could undermine national peace and security.
Seedy SK Njie, NPP Deputy Spokesperson, said the party remains committed to democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of The Gambia’s stability, while praising President Barrow’s leadership in advancing the country’s infrastructure, health, and education sectors since 2016.
The NPP urged all Gambians to reject divisive rhetoric and politics based on intimidation, warning that such actions threaten the country’s hard-won democratic progress.
