The executive director of the National Sports Council (NSC), Lamin Jawla, faced a hostile reception during an anti-corruption protest when he was booed and pelted with plastic bottles by demonstrators.
Protesters accused him of disrespect and expressed frustration over the council’s initial absence.
The protest was organised to demand accountability and transparency from several key institutions.

Demonstrators had vowed to stay on the streets until representatives from all five institutions they petitioned appeared to receive their letters outlining grievances related to corruption and governance issues. The NSC was among those institutions that initially did not send a representative, fueling the protesters’ anger.
After several hours of waiting, Mr Jawla arrived at the protest site.
His presence was met with loud jeers and chants, with some protesters throwing plastic bottles in his direction. Security personnel quickly moved to escort him, as the situation grew tense.
Mr Jawla did not address the crowd but accepted the petition from the protest leaders before leaving the scene under heavy guard.
