Drivers hired by the OIC Gambia secretariat today (8 May) gathered at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Conference Centre to protest over unpaid salary.

The drivers accused the secretariat of “betrayal and violation” of their rights while adding that after the summit all they received was “thank you” message.

They called on President Barrow to take disciplinary action against the authorities responsible and settle their money.

Speaking at the protest ground, Abou Njie, one of the drivers said: “we are disappointed that still now we don’t get our salary and today is the last day because the OIC has concluded. They called us to say thank you which is disrespectful because we are all family heads and we want the highest authorities to know about this.”

“We came to OIC for work not to invoke prayers. We have families to take care of and what they have done is wrong. We are not here to criticise the government, but we are here to fight for our rights,” Lamin Sanyang said.

Saloum Barrow added: “we have endured so much difficulties throughout this OIC summit. We are crying in our hearts because some are renting with their families.”
