Rapper and social activist Killa Ace

Police have arrested rapper Killah Ace and a dozen of other activists accused of being behind last month’s rioting in the Greater Banjul Area.

The rapper and social activist was arrested on Saturday along with other activists at the Serekunda market.

Demba Njie, a vendor at the Serekunda market, who witnessed the arrests, said: “It happened between 3pm and 4pm at the Serrekunda market.

“They were taken to Tallinding Police station but the officers there assured us that they are in safe hands, that they are just going to ask them questions, take their statements and release them.”

The market vendors at the Serekunda market rioted last month after one of their colleague, Ousman Darboe, died following an incident with police officers of the anti-crime unit. The vendors accused the police of being responsible for the death of Ousman Darboe, a Sierra Leone national, and took to the streets of Serekunda demanding justice.

The home of the anti-crime unit boss was set alight and the Bakoteh Police Station ransacked.

The police PRO has been contacted for comment.
