The Gambia Police Force has intensified operations in the North Bank Region as authorities move to clamp down on irregular migration along the increasingly used Barra–Ginack corridor.

Police patrols on Wednesday discovered a group of youths preparing to cross to Ginack using a local boat, assisted by motorbike riders who were transporting them from Barra to the crossing point.

Following the incident, a joint force comprising Immigration, the Police Intervention Unit, Traffic officers and other security services was deployed to reinforce the area.

The security teams will conduct targeted screening, seize motorbikes being used to facilitate illegal crossings and impound the boat involved.

The Barra–Ginack axis has recently emerged as a hotspot for irregular migration attempts, prompting sustained patrols and tighter surveillance.

Authorities say the operation is part of a wider national strategy to dismantle facilitation networks and discourage young people from using dangerous and unlawful migration routes.

The Police have urged residents to cooperate with the ongoing efforts and report any suspicious activities around crossing points, saying they remain committed to protecting young people and securing the country’s borders.
