President Adama Barrow of The Gambia has held a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key regional issues.

According to the Egyptian presidency, the call reviewed longstanding ties between The Gambia and Egypt, particularly as both countries mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

President Barrow and President El-Sisi agreed to deepen cooperation across several sectors, including economic development, education and capacity building.

The leaders also discussed ways to boost trade relations and encourage greater private sector participation in economic and commercial activities.

The discussions further explored opportunities for expanding the operations of Egyptian companies in The Gambia, especially in infrastructure and construction.

President Barrow expressed appreciation for Egypt’s support in the health sector, praising the establishment of an Egyptian medical centre in Banjul and the assistance provided to The Gambia in that area.

The call also touched on regional developments in West Africa and the Sahel.

President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for stability in the region, while both leaders stressed the importance of collective efforts to address security challenges, respect national sovereignty and strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation to maintain peace and stability.
