Protest leaders of the 3 Years Jotna movement in remand at the Mile Two Central Prison will get a bail hearing at the High Court next Tuesday, sources close to the defence team said.

The leaders of the group and their supporters were arrested last Sunday after an anti-government protest turned violent.

On Wednesday the protesters were denied bail and remanded by Magistrate P. Sarr of the Kanifing Magistrates Court who transferred the case to the High Court
saying that her Court did not have the jurisdiction to hear the case.

The protest leaders – Abdou Njie, Ebrima Kitim Jarjue, Sheriffo Sonko, Hagi Suwaneh, Fanta Mballow, Karim Touray, Yankuba Darboe and Muctarr Ceesay – face a slew of charges including unlawful assembly, rioting and criminal damage.

Two of the charges carry a life imprisonment if found guilty.
