Presidential adviser Momodou Sabally has cast doubt on Hamat Bah’s recent announcement that his presidential ambition is unshakeable, emphasizing that Bah remains part of the grand alliance led by President Adama Barrow.
Speaking on the political landscape, Sabally highlighted that Hamat Bah has been active in Gambian politics since the Jammeh era and has held positions within successive governments.
He noted that Bah’s ministerial appointment came from President Barrow, whose leadership he continues to support.

“Someone who has been doing politics since the Jammeh era obviously wants to become president,” Sabally said, “but the question is whether he can do so while remaining part of an alliance headed by Barrow.”
He explained that the alliance’s stated position is to support the government and President Barrow, and questioned how Bah’s presidential ambition aligns with these commitments.
According to Sabally, Bah has not indicated that he intends to break from the alliance, making his bid appear contradictory.
Sabally’s remarks come months after Hamat Bah publicly declared his presidential ambition as unshakeable, signaling his intent to contest in the next election cycle.
He suggested that Bah’s declaration could spark tension within the alliance, highlighting the delicate balance between individual political ambitions and collective party strategy.
