Gambian Muslims, both young and old, fill the local mosque in Sinchu and every available space outside to pray during the first day of Tabaski. Eid al-Adha, or known as Tabaski in West Africa, is also called the Feast of Sacrifice. Celebrated throughout the Muslim world is the second of the two Eid celebrations. During Tabaski every family will buy a goat which will be sacrificed and the meat distributed between the family and friends.

The Supreme Islamic Council has announced the sighting of the crescent, marking the beginning of 2025 Ramadan in the country on Saturday.

SIC’s announcement followed Saudi Arabia’s declaration, which has also been confirmes by various countries around world.

Representing the President of the Supreme Islamic Council, Vice President, Cadi Shiekh Omar Secka, said their declaration is sipported by multiple  countries, as well as communites in the country.

“Accordingly, Sarturday, 1st March 2025 is declared as the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan in The Gambia,” he announced on behalf the Supreme Islmaic Council.
