President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal has arrived in The Gambia on Saturday for a one-day working visit, his second trip to the country since taking office, as attention also turns to reported political tensions back home involving his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
The Senegalese leader arrived at Banjul International Airport at around 10 a.m., where he was received by President Adama Barrow and senior government officials, according to the state broadcaster GRTS.
His visit is expected to centre on bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening relations between Senegal and The Gambia, two neighbours bound by deep historical, cultural and economic ties.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened political discussion in Senegal following reports of friction between President Faye and Prime Minister Sonko, although official details of any disagreement have not been confirmed.
Despite the backdrop, both governments are expected to focus on cooperation in key areas including trade, security, cross-border movement and regional stability.
President Faye’s visit is his second to The Gambia since assuming office, underscoring continued diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
