Senegalese prosecutors have added drug use and trafficking charges to an already complex case involving radio host Pape Cheikh Diallo, singer Djiby Dramé and ten co-accused, according to Senegalese media.
The suspects were initially charged with criminal conspiracy, unnatural acts, intentional transmission of HIV and money laundering following their arrest by the Keur Massar gendarmerie and subsequent remand in custody.
However, the prosecutor in Pikine/Guédiawaye has expanded the case in a preliminary indictment sent to the investigating judge, adding drug-related offences.
L’Observateur reports that the new charges significantly widen the scope of the investigation, noting that criminal cases are not subject to a statute of limitations.
The paper says investigators uncovered evidence of drug use during the inquiry, with some suspects allegedly consuming various substances, including hard drugs.
Meanwhile, Groupe Futurs Médias reports that investigators are now pursuing the alleged drug supplier, prompting prosecutors to request that the investigation be extended to include persons unknown.
