Kanifing Municipal Council Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda has responded to Information Minister Dr Ismaila Ceesay, describing him as “confused” and “insecure” in a growing political exchange ahead of the December 5 polls.

Bensouda’s remarks come less than a week after Dr Ceesay accused the young mayor of using his official position to advance partisan political interests.

Reacting to the claims in an interview with Coffee Times, Bensouda dismissed the allegations as “petty,” arguing instead that the Information Minister was engaging in unnecessary personal attacks rather than focusing on national issues.

He said the role of the Minister of Information is to communicate government policies and address public concerns such as the cost of living, wages, and national security, rather than engaging in political disputes with local government officials.

“The minister of information is a bit confused,” Bensouda said, adding that there are “more serious issues facing the country” that require government attention.

He further described Dr Ceesay’s comments as “disappointing,” insisting that the ongoing exchanges reflect insecurity rather than constructive political engagement.

“I have said to myself that I would not reply to such vitriol and petty allegations,” he said, adding that he believes the minister’s repeated criticism suggests personal frustration.

Bensouda also contrasted his political position with that of appointed officials, stating that unlike ministers, he does not report to anyone and is not subject to dismissal from office.
