Edward Singhateh

The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission has confirmed that Edward Singhatey, former vice chairman of the AFPRC Junta, will testify on Wednesday.

Mr Singhatey, who was a close associate of former president Yahya Jammeh, left Abuja on Friday for Banjul.

The Commission dismissed rumours on social media and other online papers that Mr Singhatey will testify on Monday.

In a press release, the TRRC said: “while we can confirm that Mr. Singhateh is indeed in The Gambia, it is not likely that he will appear before the Commission on Monday. We expect that he will appear sometime during the week, most likely on Wednesday and / or Thursday.”

If Edward Singhatey testify next week, he will be the second high profile former junta member to appear before the Commission.

Mr. Singhateh has been implicated in the death of former finance minister Ousman Koro Ceesay, the extrajudicial killing of the of November 11 mutineers as well as other human rights abuses during the AFPRC regime from 1994-1996.
