Gambia security officers have undergone a three-day protocol training exercise ahead of the upcoming Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) conference in Banjul.

On Tuesday 58 officers were involved in a protocol training to prepare the Gambian security personnel for the November conference.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Salimatta Touray, presided over the opening ceremony.

Ms Touray said: “The training could not have come at a better time. We are heading for the OIC summit and we want The Gambia to do its best. Our protocol is still young so I will urge the participants to take advantage of this.”

Police officers and other security units did similar training months ago.

The training was organised by the Government of the Republic of Turkey through its Embassy in Banjul.

OIC Summit is scheduled to take place in Banjul in November 2019.

The Gambia government is still on the slow lane with the preparation efforts as key infrastructure such as roads and hotels are yet to be completed.
