Police are investigating a case of assault causing actual bodily harm linked to a land dispute between residents of Gunjur and Berending.

The incident, which occurred on March 22, 2026, left a man identified as Yahya Touray with serious injuries after he was allegedly attacked while working on farmland.

According to preliminary police findings, the victim was confronted by a group of individuals armed with cutlasses and assaulted during the dispute.

He was initially treated at Gunjur Health Centre before being referred to Brikama Major Health Centre for further medical attention.

Following what Police described as a swift intervention, two suspects, Babucarr Jammeh, 50, and Fatou Saidy, 31, both from Berending, have been arrested and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Police say a third suspect, identified as Ousman Jatta, is still at large and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.

Despite the incident, the situation in the area has been brought under control, with security presence maintained to prevent any escalation.

Community leaders and youth groups have also stepped in, engaging in dialogue and calling for calm and peaceful coexistence.

The Gambia Police Force has urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
