The United Democratic Party has expressed concern over what it describes as troubling developments affecting electoral integrity in The Gambia.

In a statement, the party said it had previously lodged a complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission and the Gambia Police Force regarding a woman allegedly found in possession of three forged Gambian birth certificates at a voter registration site in Tanji.

According to the UDP, the individual was under police investigation but has reportedly returned to the same registration centre, now serving as an accredited agent for the National People’s Party.

The party described the development as “alarming and unconscionable,” raising concerns about the credibility and impartiality of the electoral process.

It questioned how “an individual allegedly under criminal investigation for forging national documents” could be cleared to participate in such a sensitive democratic exercise.

The UDP also pointed to alleged involvement of senior NPP officials, including Seedy S.K. Njie, saying such actions, if proven, could undermine public confidence in both electoral and law enforcement institutions.

The party has called on the IEC to urgently review the matter and provide a transparent explanation, while urging the police to update the public on the status of their investigation.

“Free, fair, and credible elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. Any action that compromises this process must be addressed swiftly and unequivocally,” the statement said.

The UDP reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity and holding institutions accountable in the interest of justice and transparency.
