UNITE has raised concerns over an alleged incident at a ferry terminal involving its National President, Ebrima Dibba, and First Lady Fatoumata Bah-Barrow.

In a statement, UNITE Deputy National Campaign Manager Hon. Ebrima Ceesay claimed he witnessed an attempt to prevent Dibba from boarding the same ferry as the First Lady while travelling to Barra.

Ceesay alleged that there was a prolonged disagreement at the terminal and that the First Lady instructed that Dibba should not be allowed to board the ferry.

He further claimed that some Gambia Ferry Services security officers were threatened with possible consequences to their jobs if Dibba was allowed to board.

Despite the dispute, Ceesay said Dibba eventually boarded the ferry following what he described as “push and pull” at the terminal.
UNITE said the incident raises concerns about the treatment of citizens and the possible use of public institutions for political purposes.

Ceesay said he and Dibba would closely monitor whether any ferry security officers involved face disciplinary action or dismissal.
“Public institutions must serve all Gambians fairly and without political discrimination,” he said.
