Tombong Jadama, a veteran journalist and former staff member of Foroyaa newspaper, has passed away after a protracted illness.

He died on Saturday night in Farato, his family and colleagues have confirmed.

Jadama was a founding member of the Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (SJAG) and contributed immensely to the association’s successes, particularly during the presidencies of Sainabou Kujabi and Namory Trawally.

Beyond his journalism career, the late Jadama was also a political activist and humanitarian, dedicating much of his life to the struggle for justice, dignity and social consciousness.

He worked at West Coast Radio during its formative and transformative period under the leadership of Peter Gomez, playing a role in shaping the station’s early impact.

He later became a freelance journalist, reporting widely on local and international sports.

Jadama travelled extensively to cover Gambia’s national teams in international competitions and, shortly before his illness, worked at the former West Africa Football Union (WAFU) A Head Office in Bakoteh, where he handled key administrative responsibilities within the Secretariat.

Colleagues remember him as principled, committed and deeply passionate about journalism, sports and social justice.
