Lamin Waa Juwara, a veteran politician and former minister, has died aged 79. 

Juwara passed away today at his Brikama residence.

The late politician served as minister of Lands and Local Government under the regime of exiled former President Yahya Jammeh. 

He was a fearless politician and social activist he was imprisoned several times by the Jammeh regime for his opposition to military rule and human rights abuses. 

Gambians from all walks of life have paid tribute to him. 

‘Mbarodi’, means Lion, as he fondly called by his supporters is widely known for his no-nonsense stance on many issues of public concerns including good governance in the country.
