The West African Senior School Certificate Examination results for 2022 have shown that Gambian students perform very poorly compared to previous years. 

Of the total 15,360 students that took this year’s exams only 605 got credit passes in 5 subjects including English Language and Mathematics. 

According to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Banjul Office this represents a decrease in candidature of 5.38% over the previous year entry figure of 16,234 candidates. 

And a large percentage of the students 3667 (23.87%) got credit pass in one subject. 

Only 201 students (1.31%) achieved credit pass in 9 subjects.

Out of the 15,360 candidates that registered for the examination this year 6,319 (41.14%) were male while 9,041 (58.86%) were female.

According to the WAEC statement, Gambian students registered in 32 subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Science, Arts, Commerce, Technical and Vocational Subjects.

“A summary of the performance in WASSCE for School Candidates, 2022 in terms of the number of credit passes obtained and the percentage of candidates that obtained such a number of credit passes is given below.
