Brikama Area Council chairman Yankuba Darboe has accused the Minister of Works, Ebrima Sillah, of defending corruption after he called for a counter-protest against recent anti-corruption demonstrations.
Sillah, also a senior member of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) urged supporters to mobilise in response to growing public protests demanding transparency and accountability in government.
Reacting to the minister’s call, Mr Darboe condemned the move as an attempt to undermine the fight against corruption.

“If you call for a protest against a protest against corruption, what are you protesting for? For corruption,” he said.
“So a State Minister in the Gambia wants to call for a protest to support his corruption. Not in our name,” he added.
