The Accountant General’s Department (AGD) has disputed claims by Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda that the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) has not functioned at the council for the past two years.
In a statement responding to comments made by Bensouda on Coffee Time with Peter Gomez, the AGD said KMC has been processing transactions through IFMIS.
The department said its system administrators queried the system and generated updated KMC reports, including recurrent, development and revenue cashbooks, the general ledger, and itemised commitment and expenditure reports.
According to the AGD, all the reports have been updated to August 2026, which it said demonstrates that IFMIS is operational and being used at KMC.
The department suggested that the mayor may not be fully aware of the system’s use at the council, or that supervision of KMC’s accounting function may not be working effectively.
The AGD also noted that larger and more complex ministries, departments and agencies are successfully operating with IFMIS.
It reminded implementing entities that any system-related problems should be reported to AGD system administrators through established support channels.
