Bakary Badjie, the nation’s youths and sports minister, has said that mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda does not deserve a second term in office for not bringing much development to the Kanifing Municipality.

Badjie, who has launched a bid under the ruling National People’s Party to unseat mayor Bensouda, was speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral Commission’s Kanifing regional office on Kairaba Avenue.

“We’ve seen in the current five years of the mayor, he has not succeeded in doing much by the revenue the council has collected. For a mayor, for the first time increases taxes and licenses and duties 100% and yet he has not provided a single market, road or school. The mayor does not deserve a second term in office,” he said.

However, Mr Badjie promised to transform the council way of revenue collection from paper to digital and work closely with the National Water and Electricity Company to provide electricity and water to struggling communities within the council.

“We want change, we want something progressive. We want a mayor who will work with central government in order to bring development to the people of the municipality,” Badjie added.
