President Adama Barrow has defended his decision to form an alliance with the forming APRC party and claimed that it’s in the best interest of the country.

Speaking to the reporters after filing his nomination for presidency at the IEC offices, the president said: “APRC is a party we are in alliance with based on principle.

“The principle is that they are a registered party, they are legally operating in this country and we are also a party that’s why we are in alliance with the APRC.”

“And is in the best interest of this country. Is in the best interest of national security and is in the best of national reconciliation,” he added.

Meanwhile, asked about conceding if he lost the presidential election, Barrow responded: “I am a democrat and I believe in the principle of democrat and rule of law. It’s the Gambian people…whatever they decide I will respect that.”

A large crowd of thousands of National People’s Party supporters accompanied President Barrow to the Independent Electoral Commission’s headquarters in a show of strength after promising to beat rival United Democratic Party’s nomination crowd.
