President Adama Barrow has said that the Gambia will host the Organisation of Islamic Conference in May 2024, as he returned from the Saudi-Africa summit.

Barrow’s comment comes amid doubt whether the country will host the World Islamic summit following some cancellations.

He said after consultation with OIC membership and secretariat it was decided that the summit will be hosted in Banjul on 5 May 2024.

“After the discussion with the authorities they have unanimously agreed that it’s the best time to host the world’s second largest gathering of world leaders in the Gambia,” Barrow told reporters at the Banjul International Airport.

He said the most infrastructural projects for the summit are still going ahead and will be completed in time for the summit.
