Buba Bayo, popularly known as “Bilbao,” delivered one of the most electrifying performances of the championship, asserting his dominance in the sprint events of the Senior Secondary category.

The Nema-Su speedster exploded out of the blocks in the 100m Open Boys final, powering down the track with authority to claim gold in style. His acceleration and control in the final metres left little doubt about his class, as he edged a competitive field to secure the title.

Bayo returned in the 200m with even greater intent, completing a remarkable sprint double. With a smooth bend and a powerful finish down the home straight, he once again proved too strong for his rivals, adding a second gold medal to his tally.

Buba Bayo’s performances not only underlined his reputation as one of the fastest school sprinters in the country but also played a crucial role in boosting Nema-Su’s standing on the medal table.

The brilliance of “Bilbao” is not new to the big stage. He previously announced himself on the continental scene by winning gold in the 100m at the inaugural ANOCA African Schools Games in Algeria in August 2025, a feat that further highlights his pedigree.

Calm under pressure and explosive on the track, Buba Bayo left the championship as one of its standout stars, delivering a sprint masterclass that will be left lingering in the hearts of spectators.
