Borry S. Touray has been granted bail and is being escorted home, his lawyer Lamin S. Camara has confirmed.
The development follows a day of questioning and heightened security around the Police Headquarters in Banjul, where Touray was detained over remarks he made at a recent rally—comments authorities deemed to be inciting violence.
Earlier in the day, Brikama Area Council chairman and senior UDP member Yankuba Darboe, accompanied by party supporters, confronted police officers after being blocked from seeing Touray.
“He’s our party executive member. We have every right to see him,” Darboe told officers during the standoff.
The tense exchange between UDP supporters and the police ended peacefully, and Touray has since been released on bail.
