The Chinese Embassy in The Gambia has awarded scholarships to forty students of the University of The Gambia as part of its Ambassador Scholarship Award Scheme aimed at supporting academic excellence.
The award ceremony was hosted by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Herbert Robinson, and attended by the Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia, H.E. Liu Jin.
Now in its fifth year, the scholarship scheme continues to provide financial support to students at the country’s highest institution of learning, helping to expand access to higher education.
Speaking at the event, officials highlighted the importance of education partnerships in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting human capital development.
The ceremony also coincided with the commemoration of United Nations Chinese Language Day, with cultural displays showcasing aspects of Chinese heritage.
These included exhibitions of calligraphy, paper cutting, traditional tea practices, and Chinese medicine, reflecting efforts to deepen cultural exchange between the two countries.
Organisers said the scholarship initiative forms part of broader China–Africa cooperation, particularly in the area of education and people-to-people engagement.
The programme is designed not only to support students academically but also to foster mutual understanding and strengthen long-standing diplomatic ties.
The Ambassador Scholarship Award of Excellence remains a key platform through which students are empowered to pursue their studies while benefiting from international cooperation initiatives.
Officials from both sides reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining such partnerships, noting their impact on education, cultural exchange, and long-term national development.
