The Drug Law Enforcement Agency The Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested several suspects in separate operations across the country between 27 December 2025 and 1 January 2026 for alleged possession of prohibited and controlled drugs.

Among those arrested was 55-year-old Tijani Njie of Bansang, who was apprehended at the Kalaji checkpoint on 31 December with 13 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa, some concealed on his body and others inside a pillow.

Other arrests include Lamin B. Sawanneh, 36, in Brikamaba Darsilameh with suspected cannabis; Sering Bah, 56, in Barra at the Mayamba checkpoint; Jewru Gibba, 30, in Gunjur with suspected cannabis and ecstasy pills; and Mohammed Touray, 32, in Latrikunda German with suspected skunk and crystal molly at the Senegambia area.

Additional suspects were arrested in Toubakuta, Siffoe, Brikama Kabafita, Tanji and Jareng with varying quantities of suspected cannabis and related substances, including one case involving a cannabis plant allegedly grown in a backyard.

DLEAG said all suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue.
