Dr. Mustapha Bittaye, Chief Medical Director at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), has confirmed delays in salary payments for junior doctors at EFSTH over the past two months amid their ongoing strike.
The 59th cohort of junior doctors employed at EFSTH has expressed frustration and threatened to strike if the issue is not resolved.
Speaking to Gambiana, Dr. Bittaye confirmed the delay in salary payments but dismissed claims that the hospital owes the doctors.
He explained that the delay in salary payments over the last two months is due to issues being addressed by the Treasury Department.

“We don’t owe them money, but there has been a delay in the payment of their salaries over the last two months. Treasury is currently working to resolve the matter,” he said.
