
The ECOWAS Court of Justice has visited the Attorney General’s Chambers and Ministry of Justice in The Gambia to strengthen ties and improve cooperation on justice and human rights.
The delegation was received by senior officials, with talks focusing on closer collaboration between regional and national institutions, as well as efforts to enhance access to justice across the sub-region.
The court’s president, Ricardo Claudio Monteiro Goncalves, said cooperation between member states and regional bodies was vital for protecting rights and ensuring justice systems work effectively.
He said ongoing engagement would help strengthen the rule of law and improve how justice is delivered across West Africa.
The Solicitor General, speaking on behalf of the Attorney General, welcomed the delegation and outlined the ministry’s role in shaping legal policy and overseeing justice reforms.
He said the government remained committed to strengthening legal systems, protecting judicial independence and ensuring justice is transparent and accessible to all.
Discussions also covered judicial cooperation, training and the need to harmonise legal standards across the region.
Both sides ended the visit by reaffirming their commitment to working together to build a stronger, more effective and inclusive justice system.
