Justice Edrissa M. O. Faal has officially taken office as the new Chief Justice of The Gambia, succeeding outgoing Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow.

The swearing-in ceremony, attended by senior members of the judiciary, government officials, legal practitioners and other dignitaries, marked the beginning of Justice Faal’s tenure as head of the country’s judiciary.

Outgoing Chief Justice Hassan Jallow was present at the ceremony as he formally handed over leadership of the judiciary to his successor.

Justice Faal’s appointment comes at a time when the Gambian judiciary continues to focus on strengthening access to justice, judicial independence, efficiency and public confidence in the legal system.

Before his appointment as Chief Justice, Justice Faal served in various capacities within the legal and judicial sectors, bringing years of experience to the country’s highest judicial office.

During his tenure, he is expected to lead efforts aimed at consolidating judicial reforms, improving court administration and ensuring the effective delivery of justice.

The transition from Chief Justice Jallow to Justice Faal marks another leadership change within The Gambia’s justice system, with both figures linked to efforts to uphold the rule of law and strengthen judicial institutions.
