Essa Mbye Faal, leader of APP-Sobeyaa, has reportedly admitted that he does not believe he can defeat President Adama Barrow in the upcoming presidential election, citing his inability to build a winning coalition and doubts about other opposition leaders.

In a conversation with a supporter shared by Gajigo Network, Faal said he had concluded that neither he nor the available opposition alternatives could unite enough support to remove Barrow from power.

“There is no way Essa can win this election. Essa cannot put together a coalition that can remove Barrow,” he said, referring to himself in the third person.

Faal also questioned the capacity of other opposition figures to lead the country, saying he did not believe in the alternatives available.

“I don’t believe in any of the other alternatives we have. None of them is capable of running this country in the way I think this country should be run,” he said.

The APP-Sobeyaa leader further disclosed that he personally provides about 90 per cent of his party’s funding, describing the financial cost of politics as a major consideration in his decision.

“The alternatives I have are to either sit it out or go in and waste my money, seeing that in my party, 90 percent of the funding comes from me,” he said.

He added that he did not expect to recover the money he had invested in politics.

“The money I invested in this politics, there is no way I will ever recover that,” he said.

Explaining his position on supporting Barrow, Faal said he saw no viable way to remove the president and had little confidence in the other opposition options.

“I cannot remove Barrow, and I do not believe in the alternatives that we have,” he said.
He also predicted that Barrow would win the election.

“By the way, I believe Barrow will win,” Faal said.
