Former Lieutenant Colonel Sanna Manjang is expected to appear before the High Court in Banjul today to face multiple murder charges.
He is accused of being a key member of the junglers, which was a killer squad for former President Yahya Jammeh. Under former President Yahya Jammeh’s regime, at least 240 people were allegedly killed while some others remained missing.
Manjang was arraigned before the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court on three counts of murder, including the alleged killing of veteran Gambian journalist Deyda Hydara, the co-founder of The Point Newspaper.
The Attorney General’s Chambers is expected to file an indictment against him today.
The State Law Office might maintain the charges or increase them. Sanna is recommended for prosecution by the truth commission for murder and torture among many other rights violations.
He is among the 69 people recommended for prosecution by the truth commission.
The former soldier was arrested last month in southern Senegal by Senegalese forces and later handed over to Gambian authorities. He is yet to enter a plea.
