Former army sergeant Saine Modou is not prepared to end his campaign of allegations against former Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General (Rtd) Mamat O.A. Cham and has more information he intends to disclose, according to a source close to him.

The source, who said he remains in direct contact with Saine, told Gambiana that the former soldier believes there is still more to be revealed beyond the allegations and documents already made public.

“Saine talks to me directly and I may not divulge more because Saine is not even ready to stop,” the source said. “People should know that Saine has so much more to reveal.”

According to the source, Saine has shared additional information verbally but prefers to present his account personally rather than have others speak on his behalf.

“There are things he told me verbally, but he does not want anyone to relay his story for him because he said any day I am facing a panel, I am the one who will speak for myself,” the source added.

The latest claims come amid mounting scrutiny surrounding allegations made by Saine against former CDS Cham, which led to Cham stepping aside from his position and prompted President Adama Barrow to order an independent investigation.

Sources close to Saine maintain that he possesses further records and information which he believes support the allegations he has levelled against the former military chief.

The controversy has generated widespread public debate, with some Gambians calling for full accountability if the allegations are proven, while others have urged caution pending the outcome of investigations.

The Gambia Armed Forces has announced that a Board of Inquiry will investigate the allegations following directives from President Barrow.

In its recent statement, the military stressed that no substantive evidence has yet been established against the former CDS and urged the public to allow the inquiry to carry out its work independently and impartially.

The Board of Inquiry is expected to examine the allegations and submit its findings and recommendations to the relevant authorities.

The allegations against Lieutenant General (Rtd) Cham remain unproven, and investigations are ongoing.
