Four young Gambians arrived at Kanifing Magistrate Court on Monday after being arrested for protesting the controversial removal of Auditor General Modou Ceesay.

The detainees, Kemo Fatty, Alieu Bah, Omar Saibo Camara, and Mammadou, face charges of unlawful assembly. Their fate will be decided on Wednesday, when the lower court will determine whether they remain in custody or are released.

Outside the court, a large crowd of Gambians, mostly youths, gathered to show solidarity with the detainees.

Many chanted slogans in support of the protesters, highlighting growing frustration among young people over government actions.

The arrests have sparked widespread condemnation. Rights groups and community leaders have described the detentions as illegal and an infringement on citizens’ right to peaceful protest.
