The Gambia government has clarified on the lifting of quarantine for arriving passengers, warning that “passengers must be in possession of medical certificate showing negative Covid-19 test results within 72 hours”.

It comes hours after the Ministry of Tourism and Culture issued a travel directive as part of preparations for the start of the tourist season. 

“First one has to be an arriving passenger and second, must be in possession of the certificate showing negative COVID-19 test results confirmed at least seventy-two (72) hours before boarding any flight(s) to Banjul International Airport,” government spokesman Ebrima G Sankareh said.

Meanwhile, senior government information officer, Prince Boubacarr Aminata Sankanu added “Anyone who arrives in The Gambia without fulfiling these mandatory pre-departure Health requirements shall be tested on arrival and undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

“Equally those in violation shall be responsible for their own quarantine expenses.”
