The Gambia is mourning the death of Imam Ousainou Jallow, a respected religious leader, educationist and former commissioner of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC).

Imam Jallow, who led Pipeline Mosque, passed away at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.

Beyond his role as an imam, he was an educator and community leader whose work spanned several institutions, including Rosastou Group of Schools, the TRRC and Alieu Badara Jallow Memorial Senior Secondary School in Brufut.

As a TRRC commissioner, Imam Jallow was among the 11 commissioners tasked with investigating human rights violations committed during Yahya Jammeh’s rule from 1994 to 2017.

His death has prompted an outpouring of grief among family members, friends, colleagues, former students and communities he served.

Imam Jallow has since been laid to rest following funeral prayers at Pipeline Mosque.

May Allah forgive his shortcomings, have mercy on his soul and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
