Halifa Baboucarr Bah, a veteran Gambian maritime professional and respected community leader, has died at the age of 70.

He is remembered as a good man who dedicated his life to public service and the development of The Gambia’s maritime sector.

Mr. Bah started his career at the Gambia Ports and Harbours Authority (GPA) and later held senior roles at Gambia Ferry Services and the Banjul Shipyard. Rising to Acting General Manager, he was widely respected for his integrity, leadership, and mentorship.

Colleagues and community members remember him as approachable, humble, and deeply committed to service.

The ports said even in retirement, he remained active in the Half-Die area, offering guidance and support to local initiatives.

“His warmth, professionalism, and dedication left a lasting impact on both the maritime sector and his community. He led with humility, inspired loyalty, and brought out the best in those around him,” the ports said.

“His life was a model of service and integrity.”

Mr. Bah is survived by his family, friends, and a wide circle of colleagues who continue to draw inspiration from his life and work.
