Several members of The Gambia’s under-16 boys and girls national basketball teams have been injured in a road accident while traveling to Conakry, Guinea, for the FIBA Africa Zone 2 U16 AfroBasket Qualifiers.

The accident occurred as the delegation’s bus was en route to the Guinean capital.

The injured players and staff were taken to a nearby  hospital for treatment.

“Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported at this time. However, several individuals have sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical attention,” a source close to the team told Gambiana.

The entire delegation, comprising both the boys’ and girls’ U-16 national teams, along with coaching and support staff, had departed Gambia in high spirits, eager to represent the country at one of the most significant youth basketball tournaments on the continent.
