A Gambian woman has triggered debate on social media after claiming that her marriage ended following alleged spiritual interference by her co-wife.
In a post circulating online, the woman said she was divorced by her husband and believes the breakdown of the marriage was influenced by her co-wife, whom she accused of seeking help from marabouts.
She alleged that jealousy within the polygamous home led the first wife to take steps aimed at ending her marriage.
“My co-wife who is the first wife resorted to going to marabouts to end my marriage because she is jealous of me,” she wrote.
The woman said she had entered the marriage as a second wife and maintained that her husband’s decision to divorce her was not his own choice.
“I was married as a second wife because the man loves me, but now I am not at peace and I am tired,” she added.
Her comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some users sympathising with her situation while others criticised her claims and the broader tensions often associated with polygamous marriages.
She also used the post to advise unmarried women, encouraging them to prioritise love when choosing partners, regardless of marital status.
“To unmarried ladies, get married to any man who loves you. Don’t mind if he is married or not so long he loves you, love him back,” she said.
